Vero Beach Plastic Surgeon Offers Minimal-Incision Male Breast Reduction for Gynecomastia

John M. Sarbak, MD utilizes minimal-incision male breast reduction techniques to decrease post-surgical scarring and recovery time for patients undergoing gynecomastia correction.

Vero Beach, FL – Generally speaking, Vero Beach plastic surgeon John M. Sarbak, MD is always looking to provide his patients with enhanced cosmetic results through less invasive surgical techniques, and male breast reduction is no exception. For most men suffering with gynecomastia (male breast development), surgery is typically the final option when attempts to control the condition through non-surgical methods have failed. When seriously contemplating surgery, many men have genuine concerns about scarring, post-operative pain, and recovery time associated with the male breast reduction procedure, says Dr. Sarbak.

Upon meeting with Dr. Sarbak for their consultation, many patients learn that there is now a variety of advanced minimal-incision approaches available for accomplishing male breast reduction. Dr. Sarbak explains that each case of gynecomastia varies, and so too should the method for correcting it. Ultimately, he says, the nature of the breasts – their size, composition, and the elasticity of the surrounding skin – dictates which method or combination of methods he employs to achieve a more aesthetically masculine contour with as little scarring and downtime as possible.

Dr. Sarbak reveals that advancements in liposuction and the use of orthoscopic techniques for cosmetic surgery applications have made it possible to perform minimal incision male breast reduction procedures with excellent results. In many instances, Dr. Sarbak is able to perform the whole gynecomastia correction procedure through small incisions along the nipples and/or within the armpits. After surgery and healing, Dr. Sarbak says, these incisions can be almost indiscernible and many patients can agree that what minimal scarring may be visible is preferable to the previous appearance of the breasts. Dr. Sarbak notes that before-and-after pictures of male breast reduction patients at his practice can give individuals a general idea of the results he can achieve through surgery for gynecomastia.

It is important to note, however, that not every patient with gynecomastia is a good candidate for the minimal incision approach and, in such cases, a more extensive surgical plan may be adopted, says Dr. Sarbak. He explains that patients exhibiting combinations of inelastic excess skin, extensive volumes of fat and breast tissue, or exceedingly dense breast tissue may have to consider a more reconstructive approach to breast reduction, which can require larger incisions and/or nipple repositioning to accomplish the patient’s aesthetic goals.

Ultimately, Dr. Sarbak believes that advancements in plastic surgery techniques occur when technology, surgical skill, and ingenuity combine to enhance surgical outcomes for patients. With the numerous available treatment options for gynecomastia, Dr. Sarbak says many men who are suffering from this very common condition can achieve their goals and improve their self-confidence.
