Dr. John M. Sarbak has been using Sculptra® since August of 2007 and patients have been delighted with the results. Think of Sculptra® as a product that restores lost volume by stimulating the growth of your own tissue, gradually. It does not provide immediate results like Restylane® or Juvederm®. The poly-L-lactid acid (Sculptra®) is injected deeper into the tissue than Restylane® or Juvederm® to address areas that have hollowed over time. You get to see a preview of your future results for a day or so, but then the fluid from the injections is absorbed and the changes go away. Then, over the next 4-6 weeks, you see a gradual growth stimulation of your own collagen. Most patients require between two and four injection sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
In our practice, our plastic surgeons are routinely seeing satisfying results that are still good, and in some cases even better, after two years. Sculptra® injections also are less painful than Juvederm® and Restylane® because the injections are deeper where there are fewer nerves.
Sculptra® is a very good alternative to fat injections in many areas, but should not be injected into the lips or eyelids.
Dr. Sarbak or Dr. Simon can also inject Sculptra® into the backs of hands to restore thin skin in this area.
