What is ThermiRF?

The ThermiRF system applies radiofrequency (RF) energy to superficial skin and deeper tissue for a tighter, firmer, smoother look and feel. The controlled heat applied to the tissue contracts present collagen fibers and stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, without harming the surrounding tissue.

What Are the Different Treatments Performed with ThermiRF?


ThermiTight uses radiofrequency energy applied below the skin with a thin, hand-held electrode to contract connective tissue and tighten the skin. This method of treatment is also designed to stimulate the production of new collagen. ThermiTight treatments can be performed to combat sagging skin on nearly any area of the body, including:

Before a ThermiTight session begins, your plastic surgeon plans his approach by marking the skin in the treatment area. These markings help guide treatment to enhance precision with the applicator for even tissue heating and optimal results. Next, the area is desensitized with local anesthetic to prevent discomfort. When the area is completely numb, the thin electrode is inserted under the skin where it warms the targeted tissue to a specific temperature. At this temperature, skin and tissue tightens, fat melts, and the production of new collagen is stimulated. The applicator is re-inserted until the entire area has been treated evenly. The formation of new collagen fibers may last for many months (typically between three to nine months) after the procedure, during which time results can continue to improve.

ThermiSmooth® Face

ThermiSmooth Face uses a small, flat, circular applicator to administer radiofrequency energy  to the surface of facial skin. The goal is to smooth wrinkles and achieve a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. ThermiSmooth Face can effectively smooth almost any area of the face, including:

Since the ThermiSmooth Face treatment is totally non-invasive, no anesthetic is necessary. To smooth the targeted area, the skin (prepped with gel) is gently massaged with the circular applicator tip, which warms the deeper connective tissue to a specific temperature. The heat then shrinks the connective tissue and leads to the production of new collagen. As this process takes place over time, skin becomes progressively smoother, tighter, and firmer.

ThermiSmooth® Body

ThermiSmooth Body uses flat, circular applicators (nearly 1 inch to 4 inches in diameter) to administer radiofrequency energy to the surface of the skin in various parts of the body. The heat penetrates the skin to constrict the connective tissue below, which temporarily reduces the appearance of cellulite and creates a smoother, more rejuvenated surface. ThermiSmooth Body can be used to treat the following areas:

Like ThermiSmooth Face, ThermiSmooth Body is also completely non-invasive, requiring no local anesthetic. To begin, the treatment areas are marked on the skin and a gel is smoothed on to facilitate the application of radiofrequency energy. The flat applicator is then rubbed on the skin in a circular motion to deliver targeted heating to the tissue, which rejuvenates the region. Results gradually improve over time, taking approximately ten months to be fully revealed.


The ThermiVA treatment is specially designed to tighten, strengthen, and rejuvenate the internal (vaginal) and external (labial) tissue of the female anatomy with gentle radiofrequency energy. The uniquely designed handpiece is created with female comfort in mind and administers heat that stimulates and rebuilds collagen to strengthen weakened tissue. Treatment with ThermiVA can also achieve improvements in mucosal lubrication, reduce urinary stress incontinence, and enhance female sexual function.

ThermiVA treatment is considered virtually painless and requires no anesthetic. Using the applicator, gentle heat is delivered to address laxity. The wand first warms the tissues of the labia majora and labia minora to create external skin tightening and rejuvenation. Next, treatment proceeds internally (into the vaginal canal) to heat and condense tissue and achieve tightening. A longer-term benefit of ThermiVA treatment is the production of new collagen fibers for several months following the procedure.

What Results Can I Expect from ThermiRF?

To achieve optimal results from any of the ThermiRF procedures, multiple treatments spaced a designated time apart are typically recommended. These repeated treatments allow for maximum skin tightening, tissue condensation, and collagen production. The full results of each treatment should be visible within the span of approximately ten months. While ThermiTight treatment may require some downtime—usually just a day or two, depending on the intensity and targeted location(s)—treatment with ThermiSmooth Face, ThermiSmooth Body, and ThermiVa do not require usually downtime (since the skin is never broken).
